Ultimate Guide to Layering Science Skincare Products for Maximum Effectiveness and Radiant Skin

Layering skincare products correctly is essential for achieving optimal results. I am not talking about “slugging” with petroleum jelly either. Please don’t do that for SO many reasons. Here’s a comprehensive guide to using some products from Science Skincare and why you do it in this order:

1. Start with Cleansing: Appropriate Cleanser

Begin your routine with the right cleanser for you skin. Use the gently foaming Gel Cleanser (AHA + Caviar Lime) for normal or sensitive skin, the powerhouse Carbon Cleanser (activated charcoal + Tea Tree) for oily or acne-prone skin and the oil-based Cream Cleanser (Vitamin A, B, C + Sea Buckthorn + Macadamia) for dry, mature and normal skin. The correct cleanser will remove impurities and prepare your skin for the application of active ingredients.

2. Apply Niacinamide: AKA Vitamin B3/B5 Serumr

Next, use the Vitamin B3/B5 Serum (Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid + Davidson Plum) to reduce inflammation, improve skin barrier function, reduce pigmentation, balance oil, and enhance moisture retention. Niacinamide is ideal for prepping the skin before applying a Vitamin C complex.

3. Brighten with Vitamin C: Triple C Serum

Follow up with the Triple C Serum (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (C) + Peptides + Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (C) + Kakadu Plum (C)) to deliver potent antioxidants that brighten the skin, promote collagen and elastin development and combat free radicals. Applying Vitamin C after niacinamide optimises its efficacy.

4. Hydrate and Protect: SPF and antioxidants

To lock in moisture, protect against environmental stressors, camouflage and deliver potent antioxidants, follow up with one of the Suntint Protect (SPF 25 + Kakadu Plum + CoQ10) moisturisers. This is an all-in-one foundation, SPF and antiaging moisturiser in one.

5. Evening Routine: Resurface and Replenish

In the evening, after cleansing, use Exfoliant Serum (salicylic acid + Vitamin A + Tea Tree) to unclog pores and blackheads, remove dead skin cells and promote skin renewal. Follow this with Vitamin A 0.5% Serum (Retinaldehyde + Vitamin B, C and E + Red Algae).  This will enhance cell turnover and collagen production, offering anti-aging and scar improving benefits with less irritation compared to traditional retinol.

6. Moisturise: Rest and Repair

Finally, finish your evening routine with a moisturiser to suit your skin. For oily skin use the Hydra Lotion (Peptides + Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid + Minerals + Honey extract), for sensitive skin, Nurture and Repair (Peptides + Cucumber + Watermelon), and all other skin the Hydra Cream (Peptides + Nut oils + Emu Apple). This final step locks in hydration, infuses the skin with active ingredients and supports the skin’s barrier function, essential for maintaining skin health overnight.
